John W. Beem, M.D. is
a founding partner of Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania, formerly West
Reading Ophthalmic Associates. He retired from our practice in December of 2006. He has a long standing special
interest in cataract surgery. He received his undergraduate and
medical school training at Temple University, obtaining his Medical
degree in 1962. He completed his internship at the Reading Hospital
and Medical Center the following year. Following his internship, he
served for two years as a General Medical Officer in the United
States Army. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at the
University of Pennsylvania in 1968.
Dr. Beem began the
practice of ophthalmology in West Reading, in 1968, as an individual
practitioner. He co-founded Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania,
formerly West Reading Ophthalmic Associates, in 1972, with Dr. Paul
Kenneth Nase. Since then, he has been intimately involved in the
successful development of Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania. Dr. Beem
has surgical privileges at
the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, The Pottsville Hospital
and Warne Clinic and at the
Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. Dr. Beem is certified by the
American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American
College of Surgeons.
Doctors Beem and
Zobian were the first ophthalmologists in the Berks County area to
utilize the implantation of intraocular lenses with
Cataract
surgery. Since then, Dr. Beem has implanted over 7,500 intraocular
lenses.
